Week 17 - The Obstacles & an Onion

Let me just start by saying this last week has been a struggle, already.  Jay and I are apparently in a competition - Who can visit the most doctors in a 30 day time span.  Now, I would have a leg up because I have to visit the OB once a month, however I would prefer that Jay stop trying to win (and I'm sure our checking account would prefer that, as well).  In the last month we have, between the two of us:  6 visits to the Dentist, 1 trip to the ER, 1 trip to Urgent Care, 1 trip to the Eye Doctor, and 1 visit to the OB.  (And 5 of those have happened just in the last week)  That honestly is more visits to medical facilities than I have had in the last 5 years, combined.  At this point I'm at the "something has to give" point.  Enough is enough.  I can handle the OB, but this other stuff has to go.

Ok, on to more exciting baby items.  We have narrowed our name list down to 2 girls, 1 boy.  I don't know why the girl side is such a struggle for us.  We had our boy name figured out after like 10 minutes of searching.   Girls on the other hand, I have looked through approximately 4,000 names.  Not that I don't like the ones we have on our list, I just keep looking, maybe because I'm hoping one will come to us as easy as it did for the boy name.

With that said, 14 more days and we will hopefully know if we have a lil lady or lil man.  We have decided how we are going to share our gender news!  So excited to do that, I think it will be really fun for everyone.

Other than that, I haven't felt any kicks yet, but I'm told they are coming :)  No real change in mood or how I'm feeling, still feeling pretty good.  I haven't got to the "I feel huge" stage yet.   My OB thinks that at week 21 I will see a growth spurt. We will see if she's right :)  And, actually I have only gained about 4-5 lbs.  I'm surprised it's not more, considering I couldn't workout for like six weeks.  But like I said, feeling a lot better lately.  I was able to workout yesterday for 30 minutes, and hopefully can make it a couple more times this week.

Other than that, I have some wedding cupcakes to make for this weekend, and some of our friends are getting hitched.  So it should be fun to celebrate with them!

Here is my 17 week photo!

Week 16 - The Surprise Photos

Let me just start this post by saying that our OB doctor is awesome.  She is so fun, and completely down to earth (and a side note, she looks like a freaking supermodel).  I'm so happy that we ended up with her, which was completely by chance might I add.  If any of you are in the Wichita area and need an OB, get with me :)

So Monday, we had our monthly appointment.  I honestly wasn't sure what we would be doing, if anything.  My guess is taking all the important health stuff, bloodpressure, weight, etc and then hearing the heartbeat.  We got to hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks, but I knew the sonogram wasn't until around 19 weeks.

So we go in, and the doctor asks how I was feeling, and I was excited to report that for the first time I was feeling great!  YAY!  She then asked if we had any questions, like always and then went to find the heartbeat.  She searched around a bit and almost couldn't find it and then she found it. I believe it said 145.

We were asked last time we had an appointment if we wanted to do any of the pregnancy tests.  Our doctor said if the insurance would cover it, it would allow us to get a sonogram earlier.  Well, we opted out for a couple reasons.  1. I would have to contact insurance and get it scheduled (if they would cover it) and 2. I don't want to worry if the tests come back that something could be wrong.  So we decided we would wait until 19 weeks.

Well, in searching for the heartbeat she asked us about that test, just to make sure her receptionist had gotten back with me.  And right as she was about done listening for the heartbeat she says "why don't we just go ahead and hook you up to the sonogram machine.  The sono techs don't work Mondays, and while I won't be able to tell you the gender yet, I'm not an idiot, I can run that thing"  I think she was just wanting to have some fun, but that means we got to catch our first glimpse at Baby Corbie.

She walked us down there, turned on the machine (after searching for a minute for the correct button) and then we got to see this....

She asked Jay if he had an iPhone because they take really good pictures.  We got to take our own photos and video.  She was making me laugh because she was like "Now, when you come in for your real sono, don't be telling them 'When Dr. Taylor did my sono...'" or "They have to know it's me messing with their equipment, but maybe they think its some of the pregnant ladies in the office"  lol.  Oh and she also informed us that there is only one babe. (which was one of my biggest fears) Dr showed us it's knee, foot, heart and I believe in the picture above it was sucking it's thumb. We finished up and she gave us our paper to schedule our real sono, then she said she had to get rid of all the evidence that she had been playing with their equipment.   Like I said, she's hilarious.

Now at the next appointment, we get to find out Baby Corbie's gender.  I am soooo looking forward to that.   We are searching for something fun to do to announce the gender.  I have a few ideas, but we have about 2.5 weeks to work out the details.  Here's to getting my creative juices flowing.

Week 15 - The Upswing & an Apple

Why, hello 2nd week of 2nd Tri :)  Let's talk about the things I am greatful for.  1.  Feeling better  2. Feeling better  3. Exercise.  (and yes, it's listed twice because it's that important :) )  It's been 7 days since I have felt sick, and I am loving it.  It makes it so much easier to participate in life.  Other than that, I have been able to avoid maternity clothes so far (I think I have only gained maybe 3lbs?!?).  That is the part I am least looking forward to.  I have seen a few and they are just not my style, so I am pretty much trying to avoid it at all costs, lol.  Wish me luck.

We celebrated my dad's 60th birthday this weekend.  Dinner and a quick trip to the casino.  Unfortunately, when baby Corbie and I combine our luck, we are still unlucky when it comes to gambling.  My mother was the only big winner for the evening, and Jay was definitely the quickest loser.  (I think it only took him, what seemed like, 45 minutes to lose all his gambling dollas)  Oh well, we had fun!

We started our gender tally this week, and at work there has been talk of a birth-day pool.  So far we have 20 guesses and an even amount of girl/boy guesses. Votes are still pouring in though :)  Place your bets, folks!  We should get to find out in about a month (and hopefully they cooperate!)

I have an audit this week at work, boooo.  However, this weekend Baby Corbie will attend it's first Royals game.  Probably the first of a lot (only because I know who is fathering this child, lol)  Here's to hoping my work week goes quickly!  We are pretty excited to get to hang with our friends and enjoy a good 'ol ballgame, so bring on that weekend!!!

Other exciting news, while we are in KC we are going to pick out our glider for the nursery.  Yay!  First piece of furniture to make it's way in!  I'm sure it won't be long before I am talking about how there is no more room in the nursery.

Week 14 - The Concert

Hey all!

Happy 14 weeks!  I have been hoping and hoping that this day would come so this baby illness would leave me for good.  I had some rough days at the beginning of the week but have felt pretty good since.  Let the trend continue!

So, this week baby Corbie attended his/her first concert.  Front row seats to Luke Bryan.  Not a bad way to start your concert attending career Baby Corbie, not bad at all :).  There was a point during the concert where Luke asked "Where my baby at!?!"   Of course I let him know I was carrying it and he/she will be here in a few months. (You just can't rush growing a human, Luke.)  Jk!

Here are a few pictures from the concert.

Week 13 - Popsicles and a Pea Pod

I started this week, feeling like its my life's ambition to live off of popsicles and slushes.  I spent the better part of two days, doing just that.  And then something amazing happened.....drum roll please.....(yes this is a huge drum roll moment!)........I was able to work out two days in a row!  Little victories, people!  Now, I don't want to jinx myself, but i'm hoping this morning sickness nonsense has left the building. (The closer I get to being out of the first trimester, I keep telling myself it just has to!)

Other baby related items, Jay and I have been browsing Pinterest searching ideas for baby rooms.  We have finally settled on colors for a nursery, one boy and one girl.  (not because we are expecting twins, but because baby Corbie's gender is yet to be determined)  The reason I use "finally" is surprisingly, Jay is a very tough customer when it comes to picking out stuff if we were to have a boy.  I felt like I showed him a million pictures, and he very quickly turned down on 99% of them.  "Too girlie", "I don't like that teal".  It really was a struggle.  On the girl side, the very first girl nursery I showed him, he agreed to.  Figures.

We are still narrowing down names.  We have 2 boy names and 4 girl names as of right now.  We are not sharing names until baby Corbie makes his/her grand entrance, so we have a bit to figure it all out.  We want the name to be a surprise for everyone!  AND, if we decide on a name, we don't want someone to steal it.  If they do it on accident, I can forgive that :)   (And who knows, by then we may find many other names we love :) )

That's all for now! Until next time,
Jay, Jenna and "Baby Corbie"
