Week 37 - Final preps

Happy 37 weeks!  I seriously can't believe how close we are to meeting our baby girl!  I think everyone is getting anxious!  Including Otis and Benjamin, who have been spending a decent amount of time checking out the babe's room.  Seriously, every morning Benjamin greets me in the hallway, then procedes to walk into her room.  Looks around, looks back at me....I tell her "not yet" then she leaves.

Then we have anticipation from family and friends.  If someone calls or texts and I don't respond quick enough, they assume I can't call/text back because I'm in labor.  :)  I also had to reassure my mom that when I go into labor, Jay will be calling her, not me, lol.  (So she could stop answering the phone in a panic, like I may be headed to the hospital)

We had another checkup this week.  The babe is still head down and I am still almost 1 cm dialated.  My doctor thought I had another 2 weeks to go.  And, I finally got to report that I had my first contraction.  (Usually I just get to report "no" to all of their questions.)  That contraction was so fun *exaggeration*.  Every week at the  doctor they ask "any contractions?" And I always say "nope, and if so, I don't know that I am".  Then they smile, put "no" and continue on.  Well, I know why they smiled now.  Because...It will stop you dead in your tracks.  Trust me when I say this: You. Will. Know.  I knew when I told Jay, he would make me pack my bag immediately.  So, moral of the story... my bags are packed ;)

Also, we got our car seat installed!  Our doctor has been asking us pretty much every week, and every week we say "not yet."  She must think we are master procrastinators :)  Not that we didn't own one yet....but we just didn't have the base installed.  We would have made sure our lil lady made it home sweet home :). We are all set now thanks to Jay's hard work on Wednesday.

We also graduated from birthing class this week!  I really enjoyed our experience.  And I know I have said it before, but I highly recommend taking this class.  Jay and I both agree that we are glad we took it.  It's nice being able to learn together with other first time parents, and prepare for what is about to be thrown your way.  And...we made it a point to have an ice cream date after each class :)  yay!

One of the best decisions we made was signing up for our 6 week class.  I am so looking forward to seeing all the babes that will be brought into the world from our class.  I think we may be one of the first ones due...then let the domino effect begin.

And the most exciting news of all... Baby Bikini purchased!!  I finally found the perfect beach suit for Baby Corbie!  (After what seemed like an eternity) Thank you Children's Place for carrying baby swimsuits in February!  So, the hunt is over.  How cute is this!?!

Week 36 - What's left for some Lettuce

The end is near...about 25 more days to go! Babe is the size of a head of lettuce this week.  Not too many more fruits/veggies to grow to and you will be here!

We had our next to last baby class this week.  Jay and I weren't very good students this week. We forgot we were supposed to practice some of the things we learned in previous weeks.  That's ok, we weren't the only ones, and we did just fine.  I had a slight moment of panic though when the instructor said "Who practiced like they were supposed to over the last week?"  It was like I was back in school and just reminded about a quiz I hadn't studied for.

Next week we have a few things to wrap up related to newborns and birth plans.  We also have our "graduation party" (as I'm calling it).  I'm going to be bringing some baby themed sugar cookies as my snack item.  I'm sure all the preggies will love them :)

In other news, Jay has his bag packed for the hospital, and has been getting on me to get mine packed, as well.  He must of been paying attention in class, because that is one of the things we went over this week.  I gave him a hard time and asked if things at home were that bad that he had to pack 4 weeks early :)  So as it sits right now, Jay will just be headed to the hospital without the babe and I, because I will still be at home packing.

We are now on weekly trips to the OB.  I would like to state again that I love our OB.  She really is so fun and our personalities match up so well.  She was talking about inducing some miserable mama's and said she uses "T.O.B.P." as her medical reason.  After I looked at her confused, she smiled and said "tired of being pregnant and sometimes us Dr.'s are T of mama BP, too".  Thank goodness I haven't reached that point yet.  I feel like I am handling it all pretty well at this point.  I still am feeling pretty good and haven't hit the point of tapping out.

After being checked, everything looks good; Baby Corbie is head down and I am almost dialated to a 1.  Pretty happy about that, since last week I was at nothing.  (hey, progress is progress)  She let us know that if I were to go into labor after this Thursday, that we could deliver at the birthing center and they would let me go :)  Maybe that's why Jay packed his bag, lol.

Also, I think Benjamin and Otis know their days as "only children" are numbered.  Actually, the last couple of days, Benjamin keeps looking at me and then going into the nursery, and hiding under the crib, refusing to get out.  I have questioned whether she knows something that I don't (just like when dog/cat know a thunderstorm is about to roll in)  :)  Only time shall tell.

This week I have my work shower on Friday.  I talked Jay into waiting to pack for the babe until after Friday, just in case we need to pack a few things I receive at the shower.  We really don't need much more, but then at least we should know if there is anything last minute items we need to get.  One item that we will probably need to get, probably sooner rather than later, is this (for Uncle Eric, lol):

Week 35 - The Final Countdown

This just happened....

I haven't hit panic mode yet, but as I get going for today, there is a very good possibility that I might. ;)

Other babe happenings: I have apparently reached the point where I get to suffer from heartburn at night and carpel tunnel.  I have never had heartburn before....ever.  So this is a fun new experience.  I honestly woke up one night every hour.  I had already taken tums, and due to my lack of prior experience with the condition, I wasn't quite sure what to do.  Sooo.... I googled it.  And thanks to a forum on baby center, I discovered milk.  Not a big fan of drinking plain milk, however in desperate times... desperate measures.  It was like a miracle...within 30 seconds of drinking it, heartburn gone.  (It also said pickle juice might help, so that's plan B if milk isn't working).

And then there is that pesky carpel tunnel.  I thought it may be my work, or cell phone use, but as I was in my baby class, I got to learn that it is from pregnancy, yay!  Once again, I googled why.... And apparently it's because of swelling of tissue caused by extra fluid.  It  said it should only last a week or two after birth, so it looks like in about 5 weeks or so...that will be back to normal.

And speaking of swelling, I finally had to take off my wedding rings last night.  It's usually fine during the day, but my fingers swell while I sleep, and at 3 am I needed cold water to get my ring off. I don't want to get to the point where it has to be cut off, so I decided to play it safe.  My feet have been a little swollen a couple times, but nothing too severe.  I have been keeping them propped up at my desk as I am working on my computer, and and home if I am sitting on the couch.

I'm still feeling pretty good overall.  I haven't tapped out quite yet. ;)  Work has been keeping me pretty busy, so I'm sure that has helped.  And at night, I have to get up a couple times a night to empty my bladder, but I am still getting a decent amount of sleep.  I have been pretty lucky to not have to experience every "fun" experience that comes along with growing a baby human :) and what I have experienced, has been pretty manageable .

And last, this past week I have been given lots of instructions of when I can/can't have Little Miss Corbett (as Uncle Eric likes to refer to her). Mostly "don't have her here because I will be gone" which I'm sure just means, that is when she will arrive :)  Here is a peek of the office pool developing at my work:

One of the guesses means I have about 20 days left, and that itself may get my panic juices flowing, lol.  Soon enough we will see who is right!
